Abstract:
»Gender violence culminates in femicides, a term coined in Chile in 2010, and, despite the increase in laws and preventive measures implemented, it is a fight we are still losing. The objective of this research was to describe the temporal evolution of femicides and their relationship with reports of domestic violence between the years 2007 and 2022. The methodology used was quantitative, using the databases of the Undersecretary of Crime Prevention on the complaints of Domestic Violence and the Ministry of Women and Gender Equality regarding the number of femicides that occurred between 2007 and 2022. The results obtained show that there is no direct relationship between the number of complaints of Domestic Violence and the number of femicides committed in Chile. In conclusion, a systematic decrease in complaints of Domestic Violence and an erratic pattern of femicides is observed, suggesting that cultural and social development, along with women’s empowerment, may have contributed to the decrease in femicide, while trust in the complaints system has been lost.«
